the buzz

“Azul Systems has unveiled an innovative approach that addresses a major concern confronting enterprise datacenters today—operational and availability costs. Network attached processing enables significantly higher utilization allowing IT managers to manage fewer servers and removes the challenge of capacity planning on a per application basis.”

The Era of Unbound
Compute has Arrived

On April 18th, Azul Systems announced general availability of our first generation product, the Azul Compute Appliance. From Tokyo, to New York, London to Frankfurt, we have had tremendous response to the arrival of network attached processing and the promise that it holds for our customers.

For weeks now, our teams have worked at a fever pitch. Developers and support teams have combed the results of our field trials, our sales team has hustled around the globe rolling out our “No Cost Evaluation” program, and our marketing team has fine-tuned our messaging, revamped our website, and prepared to engage analysts and press on a whole new level.

There’s a powerful spirit at Azul that comes from an unwavering belief across the company that we have created something special. A product so compelling in technological and cost benefits that most data center managers will understand immediately the powerful benefits associated with this new processing model. Business managers with the talent and experience to create and grow a sustainable business. Investors with the foresight to offer unflagging support during our initial growth.

We are very gratified that the response to network attached processing by both customers and analysts so strongly support our beliefs. JJ Everett, CEO of Everett Consulting, an IT management consulting firm, said his experiences with the Azul Compute Appliance were “exciting and overwhelming.” He noted, as we have in the past, that our compute pools provide “new opportunities for building applications that could not exist until now.” This alone would make the appliance compelling, but Vernon Turner, group vice president and general manager, enterprise computing at IDC, agrees with our assessment that network attached processing “will fundamentally change the economics of enterprise computing.” And Scott Donahue, vice president of Tier1 Research, has noted that network attached processing will help enterprises “realize the benefits of the utility computing vision.”

These last months at Azul have been exciting and challenging. The next few months will certainly bring more of the same. I look forward to sharing more stories about who is deploying the Azul solution, the benefits they are realizing and how the industry responds. As always, if you have any questions or would like to discuss any issues related to our products, please let me know.

Azul Compute Appliance

Azul Compute Appliances are highly scalable flat symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) systems that effectively remove the limitations inherent in general-purpose servers to efficiently run virtual machine workloads. This is the industry’s first server architecture that does not expose its binaries to end user applications and is designed with capabilities that optimize execution of virtual machine-based applications.
