Server Industry's First Application Performance Enhancement Guarantees* Acknowledged by Java Community

Azul Systems 5-50 Guarantees Program Seen As Beneficial In Enterprise Java Application Space

Mountain View, Calif. – June 14, 2007– Azul Systems, the award-winning leader of enterprise server appliances that deliver compute and memory resources as a shared network service, today announced the initial success of its 5-50 Customer Guarantees Program. The breakthrough program, announced in May, offers potential customers access to an Azul Vega™ 2 Compute Appliance with 192 processing cores and 96 GB of memory at no cost to demonstrate results in a 30-day evaluation.

Gartner’s Jeffrey Hewitt, research vice president, said, “With the proliferation of processing-intensive applications and the number of legacy systems out there, the enterprise has a lot to gain from the ability to test a product prior to purchase.”

The Azul 5-50 application performance enhancement guarantee program provides potential customers with the opportunity to evaluate their business-critical Java™ applications on the award-winning Azul Vega 2 system at no risk. During the 30 days, Azul guarantees that the Azul Compute Appliance will deliver the following record-breaking results for qualified Java applications:

  • 5X improvement in application scalability and throughput
  • 5X improvement in peak transactional response times
  • 5X increase in concurrent application sessions supported
  • 5X gain in productivity of existing Java application server CPUs
  • 5X faster dynamic CPU resource allocation responsiveness
  • 50X improvement in data caching capacity

Over two dozen customers are currently evaluating Azul appliances for their business-critical needs. Applications under evaluation are demonstrating significant scalability, throughput and response time improvements.

The evaluation process includes assistance from Azul Systems engineers to assess application performance with the Azul Systems solution. At the end of the test period and when the promised guarantees have been achieved, potential customers will have the option to purchase the appliance and deploy it in a production environment to reap immediate business benefits. If the Azul Compute Appliance does not meet promised results, potential customers will receive free consulting services on how to tune/optimize their Java applications on the current environment and the ability to return the Azul appliance with zero disruption to the existing infrastructure.

Azul Systems is confident that its highly differentiated Java computing innovations will enable participating applications to break past their conventional scalability barriers and to deliver the guaranteed performance results. Azul Compute Appliances – which offer up to 768 processor cores and 768 GB of true SMP capacity – and the highly scalable Azul Virtual Machine allow individual application instances to scale to 320 GB of memory heaps and hundreds of processor cores in parallel without changing the application code. This breakthrough scalability is achieved with unique capabilities such as hardware-assisted Pauseless Garbage Collection, which eliminates the impact of garbage collection-related application pauses, and Optimistic Thread Concurrency, which minimizes the impact of scalability bottlenecks caused by memory lock contentions.

The Azul Compute Appliance helps customers increase their business’ competitiveness. The Azul Compute Appliances provide customers with the ability to achieve extreme throughput and scalability, guaranteed performance consistency and unparalleled agility without the complexity and costs of traditional systems. The results customers achieve include an at least five-time improvement in throughput, scalability and response time while improving productivity of existing host servers.
