MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – August 9, 2005 – Azul Systems® Inc. the pioneer of the industry’s first network attached processing solution designed to unbound compute resources for Java™ and J2EE™ platform based applications, today announced that BEA Systems, a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, has agreed to provide support for Azul Compute Appliances. The agreement provides for Azul solutions to be fully supported as a compute infrastructure of choice for BEA WebLogic Server® and the BEA WebLogic Platform 8.1. This follows the recent announcement of an alliance to utilize network attached processing designed to help enable BEA customers to drive down the cost and complexity of deploying a service-oriented architecture (SOA). “Companies like Azul have helped to dramatically simplify the steps necessary to implement SOA by providing WebLogic customers with a compute infrastructure that is designed to be optimized specifically for web services workloads,” said Mark Carges, chief technology officer, BEA Systems, Inc. “By certifying this platform, our customers can take full advantage of this new architecture with the knowledge that BEA supports it.” The two companies have agreed on a software licensing model for WebLogic Platform 8.1 in conjunction with Azul products and can offer customers service and support from both BEA and Azul service and support organizations. Customers may work with either BEA or Azul representatives or visit the partner sections of the companies’ respective web sites. WebLogic Platform 8.1 support for Azul is currently available for Solaris/SPARC and Linux/X86. BEA and Azul have agreed that future support will also be made available for HP-UX, AIX, and Windows. “Network attached processing is designed to allow enterprise customers to shift application costs from management and maintenance to development and innovation, and help leverage the BEA software infrastructure software to build a new class of applications designed to be highly scalable,” said Stephen DeWitt, president and chief executive officer at Azul Systems.
